Current and past seasonal forecasts for Switzerland

The figures show the previous forecasts using todays techniques. The forecasts would have been issued before the beginning of the meteorological season. "Nord- und Ostschweizer Mittelland" refers to the average temperature taken over the stations Basel, Bern and Zuerich, "Suisse romand" corresponds to Geneva and "Ticino" to Lugano.

Statistical analysis of the forecasts from 1987 till 2005 show significant positive skill (model performance) for the forecasts for spring and summer (correlation around 0.5). Forecasts for fall and winter have no significant skill with observations.
