In addition to the operational forecasts, also historical forecasts are available:

1. Analysis: the assimilation cycle of COSMO-2 and COSMO-7 is archived in hourly resolution for all parameters in the full horizontal and vertical resolution. The analysis from COSMO-2, with a horizontal resolution of 2.2 km over the Alps, gives the best estimate of the three-dimensional state of the atmosphere at a given time.

2. Predictions of the past, for all relevant ground-level meteorological parameters, for each forecast hour are archived “forever”. In the full vertical resolution, all fields are available for the past three months.

List of COSMO products for the main weather elements:

Temperature

• Temperature at 2 m above ground: at the sites with observations using a Kalman filter correction
• Temperature at 60 model levels (vertical profiles)
• Temperature at the earth's surface (ground/air ground/snow and snow/air)
• Temperature in the free atmosphere at altitudes of 1000 m, 2000 m, 3000 m, 4000 m, 5000 m, 8500 m and 10,500 m
• Temperature in the free atmosphere at the pressure levels 850, 700, 500 or 300 hPa
• Height of the zero degrees limit (example)



• Dew point or relative humidity at 2 m above ground at the sites with observations using a Kalman filter correction
• Dew point on 60 model levels (vertical profiles)
• Relative humidity in the free atmosphere at 300, 500, 600, 700, 750.800, 850, 900, 925 and 950 hPa

Rain and snow (precipitation) cumulated over 1, 3, 6, 12 or 24 hours

• Total precipitation (rain and snow), or just snow
• Rainfall individually by the four components: stratiform rain, convective rain, stratiform snowfall, convective snowfall
• Proportion of snow in total precipitation
• Snow depth and water content of snow
• Height of the snowfall limit

Wind (direction and strength)

• Wind at 10 m above ground and at about 800m above ground
• Winds at 300, 500, 700 and 850 hPa
• Wind in the free atmosphere at 1000m, 2000m, 3000m, 4000m, 5000m, 8500m and 10500m
• Wind on 60 model levels (vertical profiles)
• Maximum gusts to 10 m above ground in the hours preceding

Pressure (ground) and geopotential (height)

• Reduced pressure at sea level
• Pressure change over the last three hours
• Geopotential at 300, 500, 600, 700 and 850 hPa

Cloudiness

• Cloudiness (total, high, medium, deep)

Radiation and evaporation as hourly totals

• Global radiation and longwave radiation
• Evaporation

Other specialized products

For special applications (e.g. scientific research) more predictive variables are available for each hour and on the whole model domain:

• Albedo of the soil in the short-wave
• Vertical motion in the free atmosphere on 60 model levels and on the pressure surfaces 850, 700, 500 and 300 hPa
• Temperature and water content of the soil layers
• Turbulent transfer coefficient for momentum, heat and humidity on the ground
• Net radiation (shortwave and longwave) at the ground and on the upper edge of the atmosphere
• Surface runoff and ground water flow
• Area index of the base and ceiling of convective clouds
• Zonal and meridional momentum flux on the ground
• Sensible and latent heat flux on the ground
• Stability indices:
CAPE (convective available potential energy), CIN (convective inhibition), LCL (lifting condensation level), LFC (level of free convection), Showalter Index, SLI (surface lifted index), SDI (supercell detection index)
